Utility Dogs

Dogs at work

A combination of obedience training and Schutzdienst offers a very varied sport in which the human-dog relationship is strongly developed and encouraged throughout.

How does the course help me and my dog?

Your dog is encouraged all around, such as his prey drive. The human-dog relationship is constantly improving. The team is always faced with new challenges, which must be mastered. This varied Schutzdienst sport is therefore not boring.

Protection service

The Schutzdienst is for many spectators, dog sportsmen and also the dogs the highlight in the IGP- working dog sport. In this discipline, the dog's innate drive "to prey" is used to provide him with the most species-appropriate activity possible. The "prey" is a stimulating "prey substitute". In the early stages of Schutzdienst training, this "prey substitute" is, for example, a soft pillow and then later a padded arm that a so-called helper slips over his arm. With the help of the "helper", the dog's natural prey drive is playfully awakened, encouraged and directed exclusively to the prey substitute "arm". The dog wants to hunt his "prey" absolutely. He learns to track them, to concentrate on them and finally to conquer them. There are rules to which the dog and "his human" (but also the "helper") must adhere. During the entire process, for example, the "man of the dog" must also be able to control, direct and guide his dog.

Subordination

Obedience is the indispensable linchpin for living together with the dog in everyday life, in the family pack and for dog sports. In this discipline, the human brings his dog - with calm, praise, targeted motivation and expertise - to follow even barely audible instructions or to understand certain visual signals. The dog in turn learns to carry out these instructions of "his human" joyfully, quickly and exactly. This goes clearly beyond the entry-level training "companion dog test". The basic exercises are performed with increasing precision and harmony and become more and more difficult. The degree of difficulty therefore increases continuously. The dog and the human continuously learn further exercises such as retrieving and jumping over obstacles. The dog can then detach itself from its human on command, even over long distances.
